Cyber-shot C905 phone to come preloaded with 'NearMe' application

Sony Ericsson's new 8.1 megapixel Cyber-shot C905 phone will come preloaded with Mobile Commerce's 'NearMe' application.
 
The application, which is a local search service that provides users with detailed information on local businesses, amenities, venues and events, all based on current location using the GPS capabilities of the user's handset, will also be available to download onto the GPS enabled C702 Cyber-shot and W760 Walkman handsets.
 

ESRI and Navteq expand their relationship

Navteq has signed an enterprise license agreement (ELA) for ESRI's ArcGIS suite of software products.
 
"This worldwide agreement allows Navteq to utilise ArcGIS technology across the enterprise to build products beyond the core map database," stated a release.
 
The agreement ensures Navteq has access to the most current suite of ArcGIS products worldwide for data development.
 
Additionally, Navteq has developed and implemented tools that allow interaction between the company's proprietary editing tools and ArcGIS.

eMarketer estimates there will be over 63 million location-based service users worldwide this year, and 486 million in 2012.
 
The firm has stated that consumers have discovered that the appeal of location-based services extends beyond pinpointing locations, businesses and other points of interest.
